Do you follow PCL on social media? Our exciting, daily social media campaign, 101 Ways, starts March 20, presenting some of the many ways PCL contributes to this vibrant city; 101 ways, to be precise! We'll show you, colorful and illustrative images between now and mid-July on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. And images will be added to this page as they are published so you can catch up on any you miss.

  • #62 PCL's Cheryl Hunt has just retired after an amazing 52-year career in Providence as a librarian! The main picture shows her reading at Roger Williams Park Zoo & Carousel Village in 1993, with other images from Providence Public Library or PCL dating to 1989, 2003 and finally 2015, when her Rochambeau colleagues surprised her with a pink cake on the occasion of her 50th work anniversary.   • #45 PCL is happy to announce that #olneyvillelibrary will reopen at 1PM on Monday, May 15!The library has undergone extensive renovations and the building's interior is like new. These computers were built just a few weeks ago by young people participating in our innovative Computer Builders Program. Of course, we'll be celebrating: details coming soon. In the meantime, many thanks to the staff and volunteers who have worked so hard to make this day happen!
  • #44 This 1,000 piece puzzle was completed by Patrons at #mountpleasantlibrary (special thanks to puzzle expert Mr Eddy). Glued and mounted, it makes a beautiful piece of art! People of all ages come to libraries to do puzzles, play chess and other board games or relax with coloring books, all in a community setting.
  • #43 Mission accomplished! Our Latino Program Coordinator, Carolina, and #southprovidencelibrary organized a giveaway of 1,200 new, nonfiction, Spanish language children's titles and all have found new homes. Get reading, kids!

Foster Grandparents act as role models, mentors and friends to our patrons and work with @provcomlib thanks to a program at #federalhillhouse.

  • They've really got the #MoneysmartRI spirit at #knightmemoriallibrary! Kids made piggy bank crafts and origami dollar rings. Library intern Eder demonstrated a science experiment, utilizing an alcohol and water solution, showing how a dollar bill can catch fire without burning up at his weekly "Reactions Without any Infractions" science program. Rest assured that no person or dollar bill was harmed!
  • Here are 10 of PCL's 22 ESL volunteers. They come from all walks of life and despite their personal circumstances, show up week after week, prepared and eager to make a difference for our patrons. If they're visiting your library this week, acknowledge them and their contribution, especially in light of National Volunteer Week!

  • #27 Here is Providence RI, as depicted in Unite for Literacy's Book Desert map. The map uses a combination of data sources to estimate the average number of books in homes. Less than 10% of households have 100 books or more in the house in the red areas and many have none at all. This is why a library like PCL is so important to the city.
