The Favorite Book Play Festival: Get Your Tickets!

Once Upon a Time: The Favorite Book Play Festival
will be performed at AS220 Blackbox Theatre, 95 Empire Street on March 2-5.

About the Festival
The Manton Avenue Project (MAP) works to inspire the creative voices of kids living in the Olneyville neighborhood through "playmaking". On February 7, Mount Pleasant Library had a special visit from some of the Project's talented young writers, who eagerly sifted through the library's book collections to find inspiration for their own personal writing projects. The students are writing plays for MAP's March production, Once Upon a Time:The Favorite Book Play Festival.

The Festival is the culminating production of The Manton Avenue Project’s PLAY-IT-AGAIN program, an afterschool playwriting course held at MAP’s Clubhouse in Olneyville. Ten 4th and 5th grade playwrights each write a play based on or inspired by their favorite books and literary characters. For this project, The Manton Avenue Project partnered with the Rhode Island Center for the Book and PCL. The resulting play performances will feature adult actors and be directed by guest artists from various cultural institutions and theatre companies across the city and state.
