Free Seeds at Your Neighborhood Library

January 15, 2019 - 11:30am -- jfuentes

It might be the depths of winter right now but green-fingered gardeners everywhere are already planning their spring planting. PCL can help, thanks to our continued partnership with a free seed program managed by the University of Rhode Island.

Our Rochambeau, South Providence, Wanskuck and Washington Park locations will be offering free seed exchanges in 2019. The program is made possible annually through the generous donation of seeds by Ocean State Job Lot, and the efforts of the University of Rhode Island Master Gardener Program volunteers.

Why be a home gardener?  Establishing and maintaining a garden requires energy and commitment and, if you don't have them, you may need to invest in a few tools. But there are many benefits:

• Access to fresh produce
• Control over the chemicals and products used during the growing process
• The opportunity to make a positive environmental impact
• The sense of satisfaction as you watch your garden go from bare ground to ripe produce or blooming flowers!.

While you visit the seed exchanges at our libraries, why not check out one of our many excellent books about gardening to inspire your creativity?
