Girls Who Code is a free after-school club that enables teenage girls to learn coding in a fun and friendly environment. Affiliated to a national non-profit organization, Girls Who Code, the club’s mission is to inspire, educate and equip girls with skills to pursue 21st century opportunities. The U.S. Department of Labor projects that 1.4 million computer specialist job openings will exist by 2020, but currently, women are very much a minority when it comes to technology careers.
PCL introduced the club at Rochambeau in 2015 and it remains Rhode Island's only free, public Girls Who Code location. IT professional Kendra Saunders will guide the class as instructor and will be assisted by Katya Schwiegerhausen, a computer science student at Brown University.
