On Saturday, November 9, an estimated 400-500 people gathered at the Center at Moore Hall, Providence College, to celebrate Latino culture, arts and literature.
Ferias del Libro (Book Fairs) are popular events in the Spanish-speaking world. About half of the residents of Providence are of Latino origin and many speak Spanish as a first language. Feria del Libro deserves to become an important and anticipated annual event in our city's calendar. We are working to make it so!
PCL's Latino Program Coordinator, Carolina Briones, and our Adult Program Coordinator, Michelle Novello, worked incredibly hard to make this year's event such a success. PCL is indebted to event partners Providence College, Raising Readers in Rhode Island, the City of Providence, Rhode Island Center for the Book and Pawtucket Public Library. The event was supported in part by a generous grant from Providence Department of Arts, Culture + Tourism and sponsorship from media partners Poder 1110FM and America News en Español.
