PCL Online - complimentary, hands-on kits available  (pick-up from locations)

If your young child enjoyed our Summer Reading Program and Passport to Summer Learning Takeaway bags, we have another safe, socially distanced summer learning opportunity for them! Providence Community Library is thrilled to partner with PBS Kids to bring you PBS Kids Summer Learning Hours, events that give parents and caregivers an opportunity to explore and learn alongside children through a combination of video, supportive online content and hands-on activities. Suitable for children ages 4 - 8 years, PBS Summer Learning Hours center around high-quality media content and activities from PBS Kids programming.  Each 1.5 hour session features an instructional theme, a specific PBS Kids program and a screening of a video segment, plus practical supporting activities that children and caregivers can easily take part in at home.  Families may pick up a complimentary kit that contains all the necessary materials for the hands-on activities, so that every child and family can further benefit from the events.

There are two PBS KIDS Summer Learning Hour events to choose from:

NATURE CAT (August 12) is designed to encourage multi-generational STEM learning. NATURE CAT is a PBS KIDS series which explores the environment, encourages kids to make connections with and ask questions about the natural world, and helps them think about their role as a caretaker for our environment.

THE CAT IN THE HAT KNOWS A LOT ABOUT THAT! (August 19) appeals to children’s natural curiosity and engages them in the process of scientific exploration and discovery.

The PBS videos are in English. Some supplementary online games are also available in Spanish.

To sign up for one or both PBS Kids Summer Learning Hours, visit, email or call a PCL location.Participants can register for one or both events. Families that do not have online access can also register for kits separately, while stocks last.
