PCL Responds: Making 3D Face Shields

The launch of PVD Young Makers injected lots of creative thinking and new energy in our library spaces. When the libraries closed to the public, Seiji Abe and his colleagues from our partner organization FabNewport, working in conjunction with the RI Rapid Solvers Group, switched gears and set up a factory line of 3D printers at Rochambeau Library. To date they have manufactured thousands of 3D-printed faceshields for front line health workers in Rhode Island.

Over the course of just a few weeks, our lives have been transformed. PCL staff have proven themselves to be resilient and flexible as they have come up with innovative ways to support library users. In this COVID Chronicle article, Washington Park librarian Amy Rosa talked to Rhode Island Monthly about how she and PCL staff have adapted to provide curbside library services, programs by YouTube and how the pandemic is influencing book choices. Children's Specialist Jennifer Romans invites you to join the Smith Hill Google Classroom.

"I hope families and educators will use the Smith Hill Google Classroom as a resource," says Jennifer. "I post at least one activity daily, Monday to Friday and I have a large list of online resources that I update regularly.  I post activities and book lists for children and teens. I also post a daily picture of a seed that I am growing for students to draw and monitor for changes," she explains.

Virtual Girls Group Talk
Wednesdays, 3:00PM - 4:00PM

Teens in grades 6-12 are invited Wednesdays from 3-4:00 pm, virtually, to discuss/talk about what's going on TODAY, socialize, learn fun activities, crafts, DIYs and more! This group is supported by interns from the MET School and it's a judgement-free environment. All teens who identify as female are welcome, regardless of gender expression or sexual orientation.
