December 13, 2016 - 3:41pm -- jfuentes

A miniature golf course inside a library?  What’s strange about that?

On Saturday, November 19, PCL held its first ever Mini Golf Classic on two floors of the Rochambeau Library.  During the day, 100 children and their families golfed through the stacks and down the stairs, sometimes taking breaks to read and check out books!

That evening, another 70 adults enjoyed snacks and libations while taking turns on this fairly challenging golf course. A couple of them even brought their own putters!

Each participating family is issued with a Providence Talks’ "word pedometer" (which records the number of words and conversational interactions experienced by the child) and coached on how to use it in their daily lives. The goal is to encourage families to talk and read more to babies and toddlers and increase their exposure to words.
