Food insecurity is a real problem in Providence for many families. Summer can be a particularly difficult time for children who are unable to access the free breakfasts and lunches they receive during the regular school year. PCL is partnering with the City of Providence Summer Meals Program to ensure that children continue to have access to a nourishing lunch at libraries for the duration of the Summer Reading Program.
Free lunches will be served on a regular schedule at selected libraries to any youth up to and including the age of 18. The meals come in paper bags and contain items such as sandwiches, baby carrots and a wrapped snack, along with milk and juice.
Free breakfasts and lunches will also be available July 2 - August 24 from the PCL Mobile Library - see here for details.
