Libraries aren't just about books, these days! South Providence Library has six freshwater and six saltwater fishing rods that you can borrow, just like a library book! The loan period is three weeks. You just need hooks, bait, and a fishing license, which can be purchased on a smartphone.The aim of the collection is to help Providence residents enjoy the natural resources of the Ocean State and is supported by a Department of Environmental Management outreach initiative.

Just One Week Left to Respond to 2018 Census Test!

If you are a resident of Providence County, you have just one week left - until July 31 - to complete your household's 2018 Census Test questionnaire. You can reply online (and you can come into any PCL library to do so), by telephone or traditional paper questionnaire. Telephone questionnaire assistance is available in English, Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese), Korean, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Arabic and Russian.

The Mobile Library's Off to a Great Start!

PCL is in the third year of "Summer Reading in the Schoolyard." The Mobile Library project is funded by the United Way and takes summer reading and other learning activities out on the road to ten public elementary schools around Providence. It looks like 2018 will be the most successful year for the Big Red Bus; last week, Mobile Library staff provided services to 523 students around Providence during its five-day schedule - a record-breaking number! 

Legal Literacy Initiative Comes to Olneyville (Updated)

PCL and Libraries Without Borders will partner to provide direct services to Olneyville residents as they use the local laundromat, amble in the flea market and return home to the Manton Heights housing development. The Legal Literacy Initiative strives to bring library services and legal resources to everyday places frequented by residents and provides help with issues such as immigration and housing law.

The pilot program will run on a regular schedule from July 28 to September 8 on the following days, times and locations:

Develop Your Inner Philosopher at Socrates Cafe

Socrates Cafe
Third Thursdays of the Month, 6:00PM
Wanskuck Library

Socrates Café are gatherings around the world where people from different backgrounds get together and exchange philosophical perspectives based on their experiences, using the version of the Socratic Method developed by founder Christopher Phillips. You can now attend a Socrates Cafe at Wanskuck library, every third Thursday of the month.
