Free Halloween Events for Kids

Our staff know that young library users love Halloween, so we always make the Library a special place to enjoy spooky stories, goulish games, crazy crafts and costumes, and, of course, candy!  Here's a handy rundown of PCL's Halloween happenings this season.

International Games Week at PCL

International Games Week is an initiative run by volunteers from around the world to reconnect communities through their libraries around the educational, recreational, and social value of all types of games.This year, International Games Week is October 29th through November 4th. Naturally, PCL is taking part! Given the timing, some of the games have a Halloween flavor to them.

The Community Lens: A Photography Workshop for Kids

There's still room for youth ages 8+ to join our program "The Community Lens: A Photography Workshop for Kids." The program is a collaboration between Mt. Pleasant Community Library and Providence College students to teach children how to use a camera, frame a shot and explore the neighborhood to take pictures of things that inspire them. At the end of the program, there will be a showcase of their work at Providence CityArts for Youth.

Write Rhode Island Workshops at Wanskuck Library

PCL is pleased to support the 2018 Write Rhode Island short fiction competition with writing workshops at Wanskuck Library. Creative Writing instructor, Maggie Miles, will provide two workshops, the first on Wednesday, October 18 4:00PM - 5:50PM and the second on Wednesday,November 15, 4:00PM - 5:30PM, to help students brainstorm and get started on their stories by providing a bit of guidance. Update for Knight Memorial Patrons

UPDATE: Knight Memorial Library remains temporarily closed to perform mechanical/electrical upgrades. In October, Knight Memorial's Youth Services staff is offering homework help, computers, board games and storytime at the following locations:

2:30PM-6:00PM, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday at the West End Community Center, 109 Bucklin Street10:00PM-11:00PM, Tuesday Pre-School Storytime at Center for Southeast Asians - CSEA, 270 Elmwood Avenue
