Dhana Whiteing, Regional Library Manager at Mount Pleasant Library, received the Established Alumni of the Year Award on April 21 from the Harrington School of Communication and Media at URI GSLIS. She received her award for outstanding contributions to the field of library and information studies.

Forty-eight budding young writers submitted original, illustrated entries for this year's bilingual story writing contest in two age categories: 6-8 years and 9-12 years. First prize went to Isobel Lewis for her story The Musician/El músico (6-8 years) and Jasper Hoefferl for The Adventures of Geronimo the Llama/Las aventuras de Geronimo la Llama (9-12 years).
Providence Preservation Society’s Festival of Historic Houses is a highlight of Rhode Island's event calendar and grants access to properties that are not usually open to the public. This year's festival focuses on the opulent architecture of the Upper Elmwood Historic District. Knight Memorial Library, itself one of the architectural jewels of the district, is very much involved in this year's Festival and will receive a portion of the funds raised at the Festival's pre-event party.
The Computer Builders Program is an exciting, hands-on training project that teaches children and teens age 12 to 17 how to build computers! Participants work in pairs to create fully functional devices that will replace the aging devices in our computer labs.
On Monday, April 17, Library Director Jeff Cannell and staff delivered 1,000 pounds of food, donated in lieu of library fines, to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. The food was transported in style, in PCL's Mobile Library!

It's time to buy your tickets for PCL's Spring fundraiser, The Future is Now, which takes place on Thursday, June 1 6:00PM-9:00PM at Hotel Providence, 139 Mathewson Street, Providence. Once again, we'll enjoy delicious hors d'oeuvres, drinks and music and we will honor Senator Jack Reed, a longtime champion of public and school libraries and a great friend of PCL. Tickets are $100 each.
