PCL is delighted to announce that the Champlin Foundation has awarded PCL a grant of $390,500 to install new electrical and fire systems in Knight Memorial Library. The grant is the second award to be made by Champlin for work on the historic building since 2017, when it gave $544,800 to repair, renovate and preserve the library's exterior. Cleaning and renovations to exterior masonry as well as repairs to the roof, guttering, cornice and skylights took place in late summer 2018. The work on the electrical and fire systems will be completed in Spring 2019.
If you received an appeal in the mail from PCL, you may recognize Kenrick! He recently started a new chapter in his life at CCRI after completing his GED with the help of our amazing GED coach, Carolyn Brown. One-on-one coaching is one of the many programs and resources that we offer to you and all our valued library users.
When you contribute to PCL, your gift helps to fund our nine libraries and life-changing programs, like the one that helped Kenrick.
PCL Program Coordinator Michelle Novello and Latino Program Coodinator Carolina Briones established a little holiday tradition a few years ago when they invited PCL’s volunteer ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) teachers to a December dinner. The tradition stuck and the current group of volunteers gathered last week at South Providence Library, to meet, eat and share experiences.
