Zora Neale Hurston had compiled folktales from her home state of Florida. Actress and playwright Wanda Schell retells one such story of how the colorful butterflies were created to keep the flowers company, and how butterflies came to be called butterflies.
In celebration of Black History Month, children will listen to the vibrant story told by "Zora" and then create a mural based on the images in the folktale. The participants' artwork will be photographed and displayed on the Wanskuch Library PCL facebook page.
A free literacy-based art program takes place each Wednesday from 3:30-5:00 p.m.
