Everyone is invited!
Writer Anika Aldamuy Denise will be a special guest at PCL's annual Dia Day celebration at Knight Memorial Library on Saturday, April 27, 3:00-5:00pm. The author will read and discuss her book Planting Stories:The Life of Librarian and Storyteller Pura Belpré. The picture book is a biography of storyteller, puppeteer, and New York City’s first Puerto Rican librarian, who championed bilingual literature.
Dia Day emphasizes the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds and our special celebration presents the perfect opportunity to announce the winners of PCL's annual bilingual story-writing contest, aimed at children ages 7-12.
Bring the family and enjoy music, refreshments and crafts. Every child that attends Dia Day will take home a free book thanks to Raising Readers in Rhode Island, an initiative funded by the Rhode Island Foundation.
