Mind in the Making: Seven Essential Life Skills training runs for eight weeks. Based on the book by Ellen Galinsky, Mind in the Making: The Seven Essential Life Skills Every Child Needs each class focuses on one of the seven skills, which include: Focus and Self Control, Communicating, Making Connections, and Critical Thinking. (To learn more about Mind in the Making and Executive Functions of the brain view a brief video at www.familiesandwork.org.)

Families and professionals who participate in Mind in the Making: Seven Essential Skills Modules:

  • Are given direct experience with each of the skills that parallels what they will learn about children;

  • Have an opportunity to analyze what they have learned from this direct experience with other families and/or professionals;

  • View videos of child development research in action that help them understand how these skills develop in children and how they can be promoted;

  • Are given opportunities to “try out” what they have learned; and

  • Obtain feedback and support, thus creating a community of learners that help them apply what they have learned in their own lives and in the lives of children.
