Latina children's writer Emma Otheguy reads her book A Sled for Gabo/Un trineo para Gabo, leads interactive games, followed by an author Q&A. This presentation is suitable for the whole family.

Emma Otheguy is a children's author whose books emphasize the deep connections between Latin America and the United States. She aims to share these stories of bridges and convergences with everyday kids. Otheguy is the author of the bilingual picture book Martí’s Song for Freedom about Cuban poet and national hero José Martí, as well as her middle-grade novel Silver Meadows Summer. Martí’s Song for Freedom was named a Best Book of the Year by Kirkus Reviews, School Library Journal, and the New York Public Library, and was the recipient of the International Literacy Association’s 2018 Children’s and Young Adult Book Award in Intermediate Nonfiction.

Emma Otheguy es autora de literatura infantil cuyas obras enfatizan las profundas conexiones entre América Latina y los Estados Unidos. Su intención es compartir estas historias de puentes y convergencias con la juventud de hoy. Otheguy es autora del cuento ilustrado bilingüe Martí’s Song for Freedom, que narra la vida del poeta cubano y héroe nacional José Martí, y también de la novela juvenil Silver Meadows Summer. Martí’s Song for Freedom recibió la denominación de Mejor Libro del Año by Kirkus Reviews, School Library Journal y the New York Public Library; asimsmo, fue el ganador del International Literacy Association’s 2018 Children’s and Young Adult Book Award in Intermediate Nonfiction.
