Join the Party for Socialism and Liberation Rhode Island at the Knight Memorial Library at 275 Elmwood Avenue at 3 PM on Saturday, November 6th for a presentation and discussion on the struggle for transgender liberation and the $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation bill being debated in congress.
At least forty-one transgender people have been murdered in the U.S this year alone. Dozens of trans people are killed in the US every year and hundreds are killed worldwide. Despite a recent upsurge in trans representation, bigotry against trans people is weaponized by reactionary right wing politics attempting to push them out of public existence and barring access to sports or public restrooms. We will discuss how capitalism gives the basis to transgender discrimination and how is a tool to keep the working class divided and distracted.
In our second presentation we will discuss how the Biden administration has proposed a $3.5 trillion social spending budget that is under fierce attack from Republicans and right-wing Democrats. Workers desperately need many of these measures — including free community college, universal pre-K, guaranteed paid family and sick leave, monthly payments to working class parents and more. Politicians seem to be on the verge of failing us once again. This social spending is much needed for the US working class. We will talk about the social spending budget, the key obstacles to passing it, and how the working class can win it.
