Join us for a unique Cookbook Club Edition of PCL READS with Fox Point Library!

Co-hosted virtually this month by Carla Rennick and Donna Woodworth of Fox Point Library, we’re hungry to read their November book selection, THE SCORPIO RACES by Maggie Stiefvater. Described as masterful and utterly riveting from multiple starred reviews, the novel is inspired by Manx, Irish and Scottish legend of beautiful but deadly fairy horses that emerge from the sea each autumn. The print edition is available in our catalog while the eAudiobook is available through Hoopla for PCL cardholders.

This month, not only do we have our beloved book discussion, but we are also focusing on food and launching our official PCL community recipe share! Hot out of the oven, Ms. Carla will share a video on how to make delicious November Cakes! We encourage everyone to share your own favorite recipes on our Facebook page as well as during the book discussion so we can later add them to our community cookbook. Kick off the festive season and let’s chat about everyone’s favorite things—Books & Food!

Register through Eventbrite to get the Zoom link.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Some race to win. Others race to survive. It happens at the start of every November: the Scorpio Races. Riders attempt to keep hold of their water horses long enough to make it to the finish line. Some riders live. Others die. At age nineteen, Sean Kendrick is the returning champion. He is a young man of few words, and if he has any fears, he keeps them buried deep, where no one else can see them. Puck Connolly is different. She never meant to ride in the Scorpio Races. But fate hasn't given her much of a choice. So she enters the competition - the first girl ever to do so. She is in no way prepared for what is going to happen. As she did in her bestselling Shiver trilogy, author Maggie Stiefvater takes us to the breaking point, where both love and life meet their greatest obstacles, and only the strong of heart can survive. The Scorpio Races is an unforgettable reading experience.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I am Maggie Stiefvater. I write books. Some of them are funny, ha-ha, and some of them are funny, strange. Several of them are #1 NYT Bestsellers. I play several musical instruments (most infamously, the bagpipes), I make art, and I sometimes write about cars for magazines like Road & Track and Jalopnik. Currently I live in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia with my husband, my two children, some cows, five dogs who fart recreationally, a horse of many colors, a criminally insane cat, an interminable number of miniature silky fainting goats, and one 1973 Camaro named Loki. I like things that go.
