Summer Reading Begins!

Published Date:
June 24, 2013

Now that school is out, it's time for PCL's Summer Reading Program to begin! It's common for children to lose much of their reading skills over the summer if they don't practice their reading. Research shows that all it takes is to read six to eight books over the summer vacation to retain those skills. So, parents, send your children to PCL where we have fun programs, events, and lots of great books to read.

Not only will your children retain their reading skills and have fun, but the more books they read the better their chances at winning some really great prizes! Every single child who completes PCL's summer reading program gets a free ticket to a PawSox game. Not only that, but they will have the chance to win an iPod Shuffle, $50 Walmart gift card, Kindle, Nintendo DS game, movie tickets, or LEGO Mega Bloks. Just by reading with PCL, kids will also be entered to win the statewide grand prize - a trip to DisneyWorld. Last year, an 8 year-old PCL summer reader read 130 books (130!!) and won that grand prize!"

Between June 24 and July 8, each of PCL's nine libraries will have its own special Summer Reading Kickoff Event, featuring entertainment, activities and refreshments. The kickoff schedule, as well as recommended reading lists, can be found here.  Sign up at any of our libraries.
