The Providence Community Library (PCL) has named Eileen Dyer, Head of Collection Management Services, as Interim Library Director, and Sue Gibbs, PCL Business Director, as Interim Chief Operating Officer. The Library’s prior Executive Director recently left to become head of the Omaha, Nebraska library system. The PCL Board of Directors and Administration are engaged in a review of the library’s structure and organization, at the same time that the Board begins a search for a permanent Director.
As it moves forward, the Library is publicly thanking its staff for their dedication and hard work. PCL’s Annual Meeting is scheduled for 6:15P.M. on Monday, September 21, at Rochambeau Library, 708 Hope Street. At that time, the Library will be celebrating its accomplishments, especially noting the efforts made by the staff. Highlights will be the presentation of clips from some of the library’s StoryCorps interviews and the staff’s contribution of stories of patrons who have been helped at their libraries.
PCL was recently awarded a $10,000 organizational development grant by the Rhode Island Foundation through the Initiative for Nonprofit Excellence. The award allows PCL to complete a comprehensive review of its structure, planning and management practices. The Board and PCL’s leadership team expects to complete the review shortly, and to use the results as it seeks candidates for a new Director. “The library will continue to run smoothly with Eileen and Sue as Interim Library Director and COO, respectively”, said Mark McKenney, President of the PCL Board of Directors. “With the current review underway, this is a challenging yet exciting time for PCL.”
