Library Will Honor Congressman David Cicilline and Founder Linda J. Kushner at Hotel Providence

The Board, staff, friends and supporters of Providence Community Library (PCL) will gather on Wednesday, May 4 to enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres, drinks and entertainment in elegant surroundings for its 2016 fundraiser, “Strengthening Our Roots.” The fundraiser will take place 6:00PM -9:00PM at Hotel Providence, 139 Mathewson Street. Money raised through sponsorships, ticket sales and a 50/50 raffle (the winner will receive 50% of the total raffle ticket sales) will be used to buy new books and other library materials and fund educational and cultural programming at PCL’s nine neighborhood locations.

The Guests of Honor are respected figures in the Providence community. Congressman David Cicilline was serving as Mayor of Providence when Providence Public Library (PPL) announced that it proposed closing five of its nine library branches. Seven years ago, he arranged for PPL to transfer all nine of these neighborhood libraries to the City and he then assigned their management to the newly formed nonprofit organization, Providence Community Library. Linda Kushner, one of PCL’s four original founders, worked tirelessly to raise awareness, support and funding for the fledgling library. “PCL will be forever grateful to David and Linda for their dedication to the Library and we are very happy that they have accepted our invitation to be Guests of Honor at this year’s event” said Cyndie Wilmot, President of the PCL Board of Directors.

As part of the “Strengthening Our Roots” fundraising initiative, 50/50 raffle tickets are on sale at all PCL locations around the city. Tickets cost $5 each or three tickets for $10. The winning ticket holder will receive half the proceeds of all raffle tickets sold! The winning ticket will be drawn at Hotel Providence on May 4. Please note that, for legal reasons, raffle ticket buyers must be 18 years of age or older and raffle tickets are not available for purchase online.

“Strengthening Our Roots” is generously sponsored by IGT, RDW Group, Adler, Pollock & Sheehan, P.C., United Healthcare, Santander Bank, Residential Properties Ltd, CVS Health, McKenney, Quigley, Izzo & Clarkin LLP, Hotel Providence and Silvershell Hospitality Services.
