From Piggy Banks to Paying for College - It’s Money Smart Week for Kids!

It’s Never too Soon to Start Teaching Children about Money

Providence Community Library (PCL) is partnering with Junior Achievement RI and other financial experts to help educate children and young people about money matters.  Money Smart Week, a national awareness campaign created by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago to help consumers better manage their personal finances, takes place April 23-30. Activities range from piggy bank crafts for youngest children to workshops for parents and teens about financial planning for college. Additionally, there will be a full schedule of free workshops for adults dealing with critical financial issues, such as improving a credit score, paying off debt and planning for retirement.

Create your own Papier Mache Piggy Bank Part 1- Building and Creating

Monday, April 25th at 3:30PM-4:30PM

Join us and create your very own Papier Mache Piggy Bank out of recyclable materials. This fun workshop is going to be a two part session craft. Kids will build and create their Piggy Bank during this session. Ages 8-13.

Wednesday, April 27th at 4:00PM-5:00PM For this fun money saving craft kids will create a chore booklet with a paying value for their chores. This fun craft teaches children responsibility by cleaning and contributing around the house while earning money for their chores. Ages 6-13.

Saving for College: the CollegeBoundfund

The CollegeBoundfund is Rhode Island’s 529 qualified state tuition savings program.  Dana Peterson-Fatuda of the RI General Treasurer's Office will be visiting the library to explain the ins and outs of the fund and how parents can best take advantage of it to start saving for college tuition.
