Fifty brave library supporters will Rappel for PCL this Saturday! The daring fundraisers, most of whom have no previous climbing or rappelling experience, will ascend the roof and descend 12 stories down the 150-feet-high Regency Plaza Apartments to raise money for Providence Community Library (PCL). Gates open at the Regency Plaza at 8:00AM for media and spectators and rappelling takes place 9:00AM to 4:00PM. Family, friends and members of the public are welcome to come and watch, cheer on their favorite Edgers and enjoy other attractions,  which include Rock Spot Climbing's mobile climbing wall, the PCL mobile library, a DJ, giant games, face painting, ice cream, and more! PCL’s first rappelling event took place at the Regency Plaza in June 2018.

Each rappeller, or "Edger," has raised a minimum of $1,000 for the chance to go Over the Edge for PCL. Local leaders who are making the descent include City Council Members Nirva LaFortune and Kat Kerwin and RI State Representative Grace Diaz. They will be joined by dedicated library staff, members of Library Friends groups, event sponsors and lots of people who just, well,  really love libraries!  Mayor Jorge Elorza will pay a visit to the Edgers and funds raised will pay for new materials, services and programs at PCL's nine library locations and on its mobile library.

FOR MEDIA ONLY: Media representatives interested in rappelling down the Regency Plaza themselves can do so on the afternoon of Friday, May 3. Contact Janet Fuentes   401-467-2700 x 1613 to arrange a time. Photographers and videographers who wish to access the roof on Friday afternoon or event day. Saturday, must sign a waiver and be fitted with a safety harness in line with event safety regulations.

To stage the fundraiser, PCL partnered with Over The Edge, a special events company that provides signature events for non-profit organizations anywhere in North America and it is currently expanding globally. Business leaders, individuals and community members are invited to raise donations in exchange for the experience of going "over the edge" of a local building. Over The Edge to date has raised over $70 Million for non-profits around the world, including the Make-a Wish Foundation and the Special Olympics Boston.
