Part-time Branch Custodian M-3

Duties:

Daily cleaning of buildings assigned by the Facilities Manager.  Duties include dust shelves, furniture, and fixtures; sweep, dry mop and vacuum floors; empty waste baskets and discard other material; clean rest rooms and staff lounges; replace paper goods, soap and other toilet articles.

As needed; strip and wax floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets; window cleaning; sweep and clean stairwells and elevators; clean excessive dirt brought into the buildings due to inclement weather; shovel snow and clear steps, walkways and sidewalks during and after snowstorms; set up and break down meeting rooms for library events as they occur; outdoor care of library grounds; minor repairs when necessary; other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Speak and read English.
  • Courteous and shows respect to all staff.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Physically able to push, lift, bend, stoop, kneel, and work with repetitive motions.
  • Valid RI drivers license and vehicle to drive short distances between libraries.

Experience and Training:

Some experience in cleaning commercial buildings is preferred.  Additional training will be provided by the Facilities Manager. 

A BCI (Background Check) and MVR (Motor Vehicle Report) check will be required.

Youth Services Specialists S-1, Washington Park
Salary:  $19.87 per hour

Duties:

Youth Services Specialists provide direct service to children and teens at the neighborhood library. They develop and implement a variety of literacy-based programs to engage children and teens, including PCL’s summer reading program, a partnership with the City of Providence and the Providence Public School Department, and PVD Young Makers, PCL’s maker space programs organized and implemented in partnership with FabNewport.  System-wide as well as individual library programs may be developed in cooperation with PCL’s other Youth Services staff. Other responsibilities include assisting children and teens with use of the library for information and homework; assisting children and teens in selecting appropriate books for borrowing; and assisting children and teens with computer use. Youth Services Specialists also assists with the daily operation of the library and may oversee daily routines such as circulation, patron registration, shelving, assisting with computer labs, etc.  Covers at other libraries as needed. Youth Services Specialists work under the direction of the Library Manager or Systems Coordinator in charge of their particular library as well as the Youth Services Coordinator.

This position includes working evening and weekend hours and travel between libraries.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required.  Library experience and a minimum of one year experience working with children preferred.  Ability to speak Spanish desired.

Adult Services Librarian L-1, Mount Pleasant Library

Providence Community Library

Salary Range:  $19.86-25.59 per hour

Duties:

Responsible for the direct provision of services to the adults and teens of the Mount Pleasant Community Library.  Primary duties include the provision of reference and readers advisory assistance, collection development, and teen, adult, and community programs that are relevant to the populations served.

The Adult Services Librarian participates in the development of library service at the library as well as in community outreach activity, and oversees volunteer workers.  Coverage at other libraries and departments as needed.  Hours include some evenings and weekends. 

Requirements: 

MLS from an ALA accredited library school.  A strong background in programming and in providing library services to adults from a culturally diverse community is preferred. Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred, but not required.

Youth Services Coordinator

Providence Community Library

Salary range:  $55,000-60,000 annually

Hours:  Full-time with benefits (40 hrs. per week)

The Providence Community Library (PCL) is seeking a Youth Services Coordinator who is passionate about improving the lives of Providence youth and families.  The successful candidate will be responsive to the diverse needs of Providence residents and will serve as a highly visible spokesperson for PCL at the city, state, and community levels.

Duties:

The Youth Services Coordinator coordinates services and programs for children from birth - the teenage years throughout the Providence Community Library system by designing and managing system-wide initiatives, enabling collaboration, determining service priorities, and encouraging excellence among the youth services staff. They maintain an up-to-date knowledge of all areas of youth services, including collections, outreach, programming, and technology. In addition to working directly with PCL’s youth services staff, the Youth Services Coordinator will form and maintain meaningful partnerships with other organizations, such as Ready to Learn Providence, FabNewport, Mayor Elorza’s office, Providence Recreation and the Providence Public School Department, on projects that maximize impact through collaboration.

The Youth Services Coordinator assists with supervising all youth services staff.   They are a member of the library administration team and will represent PCL on numerous citywide working groups and committees.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have an MLIS from an ALA accredited school and 3-5 years of professional library experience. Library experience should include supervisory management experience with at least two years in youth services in a public library setting.  A strong background in programming and in providing library services to youth from a culturally diverse community is preferred. Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred, but not required. Flexible schedule will include occasional nights and weekends.
